The dress. And everything underneath.

Clearrimway is a bridal atelier and lingerie shop on Canyon Road. We cut the gown in the room upstairs — and we make the six pieces you will actually live in once it comes off.

The Edit

Five looks from the spring rail

Gowns on the top floor, lingerie on the ground floor, everything cut within fifty feet of the mirror you will stand in.

One Day

A day in the dress

We build for the whole day, not only the part that gets photographed.

09:00

First light

Robe, coffee, silence. Nothing boned, nothing tight, nothing that needs a second person to fasten.

13:00

The aisle

The gown does its work. Underneath: a smooth silk slip, no elastic, no seams where the dress presses.

19:00

Last dance

The second look comes out — shorter, lighter, cut from the same silk as the slip you slept in.

09:00

The morning after

The gown goes on a chair. The trousseau begins. This is the part we actually design for.

In their words

What they tell us later

A Letter

From the founder

I opened Clearrimway because I could not find one shop that would sell me both halves of the same day. The bridal salons had the gown and nothing underneath. The lingerie shops had the silk and no idea what a boned bodice does to a seam.

So we put them in one building. The ground floor is lingerie — silk, cotton voile, Chantilly lace, all of it meant to be worn a hundred times, not once. The top floor is the atelier, where three pattern cutters and I make gowns for people who would rather be measured than flattered.

Everything is cut here. Everything is repaired here, for free, for as long as you own it. And nobody will ever tell you that you look smaller than you are.

What goes

Bridal atelier still life
01

Start from the skin out, not the dress in

Almost every bride we fit has done it backwards. She chooses the gown, then spends three weeks hunting for something to wear under it that will not show, will not itch and will not add a line where the bodice presses.

Do it the other way. Choose the layer closest to your body first — the slip or the camisole — and let the gown sit on top of a decision you already know is comfortable. It changes the whole fitting.

  • Bring your own underwear to every gown appointment, without exception
  • Choose silk or cotton voile over polyester blends — they breathe under boning
  • Skip elastic waistbands and thick seams for the ceremony layer
Field note

If a gown needs shapewear to look right, the gown is the problem. We alter the gown, not your body.

02

Silk, satin, charmeuse, Chantilly

Silk is the fibre. Satin is a weave. A satin can be made of silk or polyester, and the difference is not marketing — it is whether the fabric softens with wear or pills by the third wash.

Charmeuse is the glossy, fluid silk-weave you picture when you picture a slip. It drapes beautifully and snags on a fingernail. Buy a mesh wash bag the same day you buy the slip.

Chantilly is a bobbin lace with a fine netted ground and a scalloped edge. It is the lace most brides mean when they say lace, and it is also the most delicate. Treat it like a living thing.

Field note

Hold a swatch up to a window. If you can see individual fibres catching the light unevenly, it is real silk. If it glares flat like plastic, it is not.

03

Measuring yourself, alone, correctly

Bridal sizing runs small, lingerie sizing runs smaller, and neither is consistent between brands. Ignore the number on the label and trust four measurements taken with a soft tape over the lightest underwear you own.

  • Underbust: snug around the ribcage, exhale fully
  • Full bust: around the widest point, tape parallel to the floor
  • Natural waist: the crease when you bend sideways
  • Low hip: roughly 8 inches below the waist, at the fullest point

Write the numbers down. You will need them again for the honeymoon wardrobe, and you will not want to measure twice.

04

The gown is a garment, not a verdict

A wedding gown is one of the few things most people will ever have made for them. It should fit the body in front of the mirror, not the body in the photograph you saved to a folder three years ago.

We keep a simple rule in the atelier: if you have to hold your breath to close the back, the gown goes back on the rail. There is a version of every silhouette that works on your measurements — it is our job to find it, not yours to shrink into it.

Field note

Book your final fitting four weeks out, not four days. Bodies change in the last month of planning, and a gown fitted in a hurry is a gown fitted badly.

05

Washing things you cannot afford to ruin

Silk is stronger than it looks and more fragile than you think. The rules are short and absolute.

  • Cold water only — never above 30°C, never hot
  • pH-neutral detergent; a drop of shampoo works in a pinch
  • Never wring — press water out between two towels, flat
  • Dry flat, away from direct sun and away from radiators
  • Lace goes in a mesh bag, or in the sink, alone

If a piece is monogrammed or beaded, do not wash it at all. Bring it to the shop and we will clean it for you — included for the first two years.

06

The six-piece honeymoon suitcase

Six pieces will cover fourteen days if you choose them correctly. Ours have been tested in New Mexico heat, Scottish rain and one memorable night in a Reykjavik airport.

  • One long robe — doubles as a beach cover-up
  • One bias-cut silk slip — dinner, sleep, both
  • One soft bralette — nothing with an underwire for week one
  • Two briefs in a quick-dry silk jersey
  • One camisole that works as a top under a jacket

That is it. Everything else is a decision you did not need to make on your honeymoon.

About

Two floors, one building

Clearrimway is a bridal atelier and lingerie shop on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. Seven people, two fitting rooms and one very old freight elevator.

Everything we sell is cut and finished upstairs. Nothing is seasonal. Everything is repairable.

What we stand on

Three rules, no exceptions

01

Measure twice

We build around numbers, not mood boards. A piece that does not fit you is not a luxury — it is a return, and we would rather avoid it.

02

Keep it forever

Free repairs for life on everything we make, gowns included. We would rather mend a seam than sell you a second slip.

03

Stay small

Seven people, two fitting rooms, roughly 340 brides a year. We are not scaling until the fittings stop feeling like fittings.

The materials

Four things we actually use

Mulberry silk 19 & 22 momme
Cotton voile Swiss & Indian
Chantilly lace Caen, France
Silk jersey Knitted in Italy

Renata Vance founded Clearrimway in 2019 after eleven years cutting lingerie for a house in Paris and six months of trying, unsuccessfully, to buy a wedding gown that did not need a second mortgage. She still personally fits every Full Wardrobe client, and she will tell you honestly if a silhouette does not suit you.
